Cristian Măcelaru has become one of the most celebrated and influential conductors of his generation, and his appointment as the 14th Music Director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) in April 2024 only solidifies his reputation. Succeeding Louis Langrée, Măcelaru will begin his five-year term with the CSO in the 2024-25 season, serving as Music Director Designate in the first year of his tenure.

Born in Romania and educated in the United States, Măcelaru's journey to the top of the classical music world was shaped by his early training at the Interlochen Arts Academy, the University of Miami, and Rice University. Becoming a naturalized American citizen in 2019, he now stands at the crossroads of international music, creating partnerships and artistic collaborations that transcend borders.
