Special Event Announcement – Alianta – Strengthening the Romanian American Alliance

We are excited to announce a special edition of the Alianta Conversations, which will take place on October 30th, 2024. This discussion will focus on the U.S. presidential election and its potential impact on Romania and its neighbors.

Given the historic significance of the election, this event promises a deep dive into the potential geopolitical consequences for Romania. Due to scheduling conflicts, the regular host, John Florescu, will be replaced by renowned Romanian journalist Lucian Mîndruță, who will be the moderator for this event.

Joining the conversation are two distinguished guests who will represent different political viewpoints:

  • Ambassador Jim Gilmore III (Ret.)

About Our Guests


Amb. (Ret.) Theodore Sedgwick, who served as U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia and is a Harvard graduate, will present the Democratic perspective. He is an experienced publisher and entrepreneur, President and CEO of Sedgwick Publishing Co. Since 2015, he is a Fellow at the Transatlantic Center at The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Study and a Senior Fellow at the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress.

Representing the Republican perspective will be Jim Gilmore III, former U.S. Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and Governor of Virginia.

Jim Gilmore III served as a county prosecutor and the Attorney General of Virginia before being elected Governor of Virginia in 1997.

He has been a consistent figure in Republican politics, known for his focus on economic growth and security.

Lucian Mîndruță, the moderator, is a seasoned journalist and media personality in Romania, known for his active engagement in social and political issues.
