Ambassador Jim Rosapepe (ret.) Interviewed on New York’s Romanian TV

Ambassador Jim Rosapepe (ret.), Alianta’s board chair, was interviewed this month by Elias Wexler, president of the Romanian-American Chamber of Commerce. The interview aired on RTVNY, New York’s local Romanian TV channel.

Jim described his time serving as Ambassador to the US in Romania from 1998 to 2001. It was during this time Jim developed a strong interest in the relationship between the US and Romania and became acquainted with the country, culture, and its’ people.

After his return, him and Mark Gitenstein, one of Jim’s successors as US ambassador to Romania, founded Alianta.

Alianta, the leading DC-based national organization dedicated to strengthening and developing Romanian-American relationships, has been activating since 2014 and has attracted many prominent supporters in this short time.

During the interview, Jim promoted Alianța’s new initiative urging people to identify their Romanian heritage on question #9 in the US census form this year. Romanian heritage is a source of pride for many Americans and by identifying it on the census forms, Romanian-Americans help represent their culture and get an accurate count of their presence in the US recognized by the government.

Alianta hosts a yearly Gala and Summit, attended by prominent American and Romanian politicians, businesses, and celebrities. Previous honorees have included former US president George Bush, Romanian beauty entrepreneur Anastasia Soare, and Romanian tech company UiPath.

The Alianta board benefits from the support of many successful Americans with ties to Romania, including former US ambassadors, several of Romania’s honorary consuls to the US, as well as business leaders and academic personalities. Alianta also works with volunteers interested in Romania.
