Michael McFaul, an accomplished academic, diplomat, and an expert on Russia, began his career in academia, where he served as a Professor of Political Science at Stanford University and was the director of the university’s Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law.
In 2009, McFaul joined the Obama administration as a senior adviser, where he was instrumental in shaping the “Russian reset” policy, which aimed to improve U.S.-Russia relations. His expertise was further recognized in 2011, when President Obama nominated him as the U.S. Ambassador to Russia, making him the first non-career diplomat to hold this position.
